The Reno Fire Department debuted a new Type 1 engine at their fire station on Mill Street Monday.
The 2025 Rosenbauer Commander costs about $1.2 million and carries about 750 gallons of water, more than 3,500 feet of hose, and a roof-mounted master stream capable of delivering up to 1,250 gallons of water per minute.
This is the second of two new engines added to Reno Fire's fleet this year as part of the City’s planned replacement program.
"The planning piece is very important, because it takes about, if I ordered an engine like this today, I'm going to see the engine in about two years, so we need to be very forward thinking," says Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran.
Reno Fires uses and replaces all of their trucks and engines on a 15 year cycle meaning they use them on the front lines for 10 years - and then put them on reserve for five years. After that, they have to be replaced to keep up with usage and safety protocols.
