We have some good news for people who need quick legal help. The Reno Justice Court has just unveiled a new walk-in center that's staffed by Northern Nevada Legal Aid and Nevada Legal Services. Staff members can assist people with completing different courts forms, prepare for court, and help figure out if they qualify for additional legal services.

James Conway, court administrator, says, "It'll benefit the community just by having it here on site at the court. Our legal aid partners have been offering self-help services for years, but they've done it at their different offices, and we've collaborated and partnered over the past few months to have them do it here at the court."

The center includes public computer terminals, workstations, private offices, and even a children's play area. Conway says it mainly focuses on help with basic legal documents.

"So, things like tenants with eviction cases, small claims, complaints, a lot of family law type cases, divorce, custody, that sort of thing."

Last weekend they held a soft opening and since then have been serving about 35 people per day. The services are open and available 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday. You do not need an appointment; it is first come first serve.

Conway says that the self-help services are free, "There's often fees associated when it comes to filing documents in court but the help that legal aid is providing to individuals is free of charge."
