The city of Reno’s fleet management team celebrated a higher ranking in the National Association of Fleet Administrators list this year, becoming the highest they’ve received.
They work on things you probably see every day, like patrol vehicles and Truckee Meadows Authority equipment.
Many on the team said they've been working really hard these last couple of years and receiving the higher ranking gives them the motivation to keep going.
They placed 33rd out of 100 and they believe they can place higher in the years that come.
Zac Haffner the Maintenance and Operations Fleet Manager told us, "We're excited for the new work but we also know that it's a lot ahead. This will be the biggest year for us to be able to make replacements and so we know with that we're looking at timing and how we can stagger vehicles coming into service so that we can figure out what is the best way to deploy those vehicles."
When it comes to working on patrol vehicles, they install all the lights, radio, control panel, and prisoner compartments.
There’s a computer chip in the vehicles that connects them, so when multiple are alongside each other, the lights will sync up to blink at the same time, making it less distracting for people.
Many on the team said seeing their work out in public is the most rewarding part because they know the amount of hours that were put into them.
Luis Mendez a Senior Equipment Mechanic told us, "When they show up to us, there's no paint, no stickers, no radios, no lights. Just a bone stock vehicle .We strip them,we get them painted, we get them stickered.
They say every day is different, and showing up to work on their projects can sometimes be a challenge, often there are multiple projects going on at the same time for many of them, but they all love what they do.
They told us that this ranking wouldn't have been possible without every single one of them working together.
Together, they create the best results.
John Roscoe a Equipment Mechanic said, “Our boss, was super proud of it. I mean, esstatic a big part of that meeting that day. It was just nothing but smiles. He's real proud of all of us. You know, there's nobody really to point out as the person that made it happen. We all made it happen.”
Reno’s fleet management division ranked higher than cities like Dallas, New York, and even Las Vegas this year.
