It's that time of year where seasons are changing and the temperature is slowly dropping. As the leaves start to fall, allergies and sickness start to pick up.

Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) shows that their overall number of cases in all illnesses are very low right now despite seeing a slight increase. However, they do expect to see those numbers really start to take off next month.

Victoria Nicolson Hornblower, NNPH's Immunization Program Supervisor, says, "Typically we start seeing that in the beginning of October, and as it gets colder out, people start staying indoors and people start sharing what they have and so, I do expect it to pick up typically for the year."

Of all the respiratory illnesses, NNPH's surveillance data and the CDC is showing COVID-19 having the largest increase with 241 weekly new cases and over 34 new cases per day.

Hornblower is reminding everyone that COVID-19 and flu vaccines are currently available at pharmacies in Nevada.

"Northern Nevada Public Health will start giving both October first, until then you can go to a pharmacy and get it."
