A former K9 officer who served with the Nevada Highway Patrol for seven years has died.
Retired K9 Barney served with the NHP from 2011 to 2018, according to a post on X from the Nevada State Police.
He passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 15.
Barney served as a drug detection K9 with his partner, retired Sergeant Dice.
During his work with the NHP, Barney earned recognition for his skill and dedication, including a second-place finish in the K9 trials.
After Barney’s retirement, he was adopted by Sergeant Dice.
In their post, the Nevada State Police thanked Barney for his service and said their thoughts are with retired Sergeant Dice and his family.
