WCSD School Police say no injuries were reported after a small gas leak near Palmer Elementary School prompted temporary student evacuations.

The Washoe County School District posted the initial notice on its website just after 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue say contractors hit a gas line, across the street, near E. 9th Avenue and Klondike Drive.

After the fire department responded and the gas line was shut off by NV Energy, the school resumed classes as normal and will dismiss students at its usual afternoon time.

"I want you to know that I am proud of the way in which our teachers and students used their skills to leave the school quickly, quietly, and safely today during this incident. As you know, we practice these safety measures throughout the year, and everything went very smoothly," principal Courtney Lean said in a message to families.
