A new statewide effort is aiming to connect Nevada students with the tools they need to better understand money and access banking services.

The Nevada Bankers Association is partnering with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and USDA Rural Development to host a financial education summit focused on high school students across Nevada.

The event, scheduled during Financial Literacy Month, is designed to improve financial education and expand banking access for low and moderate-income students across the state. Organizers say the summit will bring together financial institutions, educators, community organizations, and other local agencies.

“We’re bringing together stakeholders connected to education and financial literacy at this summit to improve access to banking and promote financial literacy for local students,” NBA President and CEO Phyllis Gurgevich said. “We want to foster actionable collaboration opportunities that will provide financial education and affordable bank accounts for all Nevada high school students.”

The virtual summit is set for Tuesday, April 7, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Microsoft Teams. Registration is open through April 6, and a meeting link will be sent to those who sign up.

The Nevada Bankers Association says the effort is part of a broader push to support economic growth and expand access to financial resources statewide.
