Northern Nevada families looking to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner will find expanded help this year as holiday meal kits are offered at multiple St. Vincent’s Food Pantry locations.
The effort aims to give households the ingredients for a traditional meal and provide a warm holiday gathering place for anyone seeking one.
Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is organizing the distribution after seeing an increase in people seeking assistance this month.
The organization is widening its reach to help ensure families across the region can sit down to a holiday meal.
A recent donation makes it possible for the group to offer Thanksgiving food boxes for an additional 1,000 families, along with “Fork Ready” meals at the Sun Valley and Moana Lane Neighborhood Centers and rural pantry sites. The expanded support arrives during one of the busiest times of the year.
Meal kits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Pick up locations and hours include the following:
- St. Vincent’s Main Campus at 500 E. Fourth Street on Thursday, November 20, and Friday, November 21, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Moana Lane site at 480 E. Moana Lane on Thursday, November 20, from 12 to 4 p.m.
- Sun Valley location at 130 W. Gepford Parkway on Friday, November 21, from 12 to 4 p.m.
- Winnemucca pantry at 625 Sheehan Street from November 18-20, between 12 and 4 p.m.
Additionally, a complimentary Thanksgiving meal, provided by the Nugget Casino Resort, will also be served at St. Vincent’s Dining Room at 325 Valley Road in Reno on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
St. Vincent’s Food Pantry is the largest in Nevada, serving an average of 40,000 people each month.
