United Federal Credit Union is donating $20,000 to help people affected by the Hawk Fire, with the money supporting both immediate relief efforts and longer-term recovery in Northern Nevada.
The donation will be divided evenly between Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada and the American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter, with each organization receiving $10,000.
The Red Cross is leading immediate response efforts, including emergency shelter and stabilization services. Catholic Charities is preparing to provide longer-term recovery assistance, case management and ongoing support for families as they rebuild.
“We are grateful to United Federal Credit Union for this generous support,” said Bridget Posson, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada. “Donations like this help ensure the Red Cross has the people, supplies and resources ready to respond when disasters strike. That support allows us to provide shelter, meals, relief supplies and other assistance when families need it most.”
The two organizations are already working together to support residents affected by the Hawk Fire. United said its donation is intended to strengthen that work throughout the recovery process, including helping purchase food for people most affected.
“We are deeply grateful to United Federal Credit Union for stepping forward so generously to support our neighbors impacted by the Hawk Fire,” said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. “This gift will help us meet immediate needs while also giving our team the ability to walk alongside individuals and families through the longer recovery ahead. Support like this reminds our community that no one has to face this journey alone.”
United Federal Credit Union has also introduced assistance for eligible members affected by the Northern Nevada wildfires, including loan payment deferrals, emergency lending options, waived fees and other forms of financial assistance.
“As a community-focused credit union, we believe it is our responsibility to stand beside our neighbors during difficult times,” said Meredith Williams, Senior Vice President of Retail for United Federal Credit Union and longtime Nevada market leader. “The devastating impact of these wildfires extends far beyond the immediate emergency. Families are facing displacement, property loss, and uncertainty about what comes next. Through our partnerships with Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada and the American Red Cross, we hope this donation will provide meaningful support for both immediate needs and the long-term recovery process. We are proud to support the organizations and volunteers working tirelessly to help our communities heal and rebuild.”
