A head-on crash on Veterans Parkway Thursday morning left one person dead and two others with serious injuries, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

In an updated post on X, the Sheriff’s Office said the collision occurred around 10:45 a.m. between Pembroke Way and Greg Street and involved two cars, one traveling northbound and the other southbound.

Deputies arrived to find three people involved. Two people were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. A third person sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded and is conducting the on-scene investigation.

The southbound side of Veterans Parkway remains closed, and officials have shut down the stretch between Pembroke Way and Greg Street in both directions.

The closures are expected to last up to five hours. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

“Expect lane closures and delays. Please avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible,” the Sheriff’s Office said in its original post on X.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office will release the name of the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
