Local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8071 will be collecting non-perishable food items to support local food banks this month.
It's taking place as part of the 4th annual VFW National Day of Service.
The organization is collecting food from May 3 until May 17, and all of the items donated will go directly to help people in need via Storey County and northern Nevada food banks.
The event formally kicked off Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m., at the Old Washoe Club in Virginia City.
