Update (2/11/2025, 3:20 p.m.):

Nevada State Police have released the identity of the person who died in a crash on the Galena Bridge last Friday.

38-year old Eric Burns from Carson City has been identified as the person driving the Subaru that crashed into the back of a Truckee Meadows fire engine.

There were no injuries to any first responders on scene.

Original Story (2/7/2025, 9:19 a.m.):

A deadly crash has closed a portion of I-580 north on the Galena Bridge. 

Nevada State Police troopers say the crash happened just before 7:45 a.m. on Friday. 

NSP says a Subaru headed north near mile marker 20 hit the back end of a TMFR fire truck that was blocking one lane due to a previous crash. 

TMFR crews immediately extricated the driver of the Subaru from the car to bring them to the hospital, but the driver succumbed to injuries suffered in the accident and was pronounced dead.

I-580 northbound is currently closed from Bowers Mansion to about mile marker 22.

Drivers are being diverted to U.S. 395 alternate.
