Numerous crashes occurred across the area Friday morning as roadways turned somewhat icy after wet weather from the previous day.
Conditions were expected to be worse in the North Valleys, west Reno, and over bridges and overpasses.
Nearly a third of an inch of rain fell at the Reno airport over the past 24 hours, with higher amounts in the foothills. Those leftover puddles froze over, leading to black ice in some areas.Â
While the middle of Reno will be better, there will still be some icy patches there as well. Bridges and overpasses ice over quicker than main roads.Â
Nevada State Police reported crashes on I-580 south near Plumb Lane, I-80 in Reno, U.S. 50 in Carson City and a fatal crash on I-580 on the Galena Bridge.Â
The victim of the crash at I-580 north on the Galena Bridge last Friday was 38-year old Eric Burns from Carson City.
Be careful driving - many area roads are icy. Conditions are worse in the North Valleys, west Reno, and over bridges and overpasses.
