The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office recovered roughly $32,300 in stolen jewelry and arrested a suspect following a theft reported at a northwest Reno residence.
On October 20, deputies responded to a report that multiple pieces of jewelry were missing from the home of a 91-year-old resident, including several high-value items that were family heirlooms.
Investigators learned the victim had recently hired a technician, later identified as 42-year-old Robert Wild, to perform routine maintenance inside the home.
The investigation determined that Wild was responsible for the theft and was attempting to mail the stolen jewelry to a precious metal refining company.
Deputies recovered the stolen items, as well as an additional gold pendant that did not belong to the victim.
On October 21, Wild was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on charges of:
- Theft over $25,000 but less than $100,000, with the victim being an older person
- Attempted obtaining money by false pretenses over $25,000 but less than $100,000
The investigation is ongoing as deputies work to identify the owner of the recovered gold pendant and determine whether additional victims may exist.
