The Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) has released information regarding a woman being arrested for alleged child abuse and poisoning.
Officials say that on May 28, WCSO deputies were called to Renown Medical Center after a report that medical staff had concerns over a 17-month-old child that was brought in by its parents.
The staff had concerns about the child potentially having suffered an overdose involving prescription medications.
WCSO detectives and Child Protective Services conducted an investigation and found that the child had been poisoned with prescription medication.
After further investigation, the child's mother Alesha Martin was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on June 6 on the charges of one count of child abuse/neglect with substantial bodily or mental harm, and four counts of poisoning or adulterating food, water or medicine.
Officials tell us that the child is recovering.
Officials are asking anyone that may have additional information about this case to contact the WCSO Detective Division at (775) 328-3320, and reference case number WC25-2528.
