The Washoe County School District has been hosting multiple job fairs this summer to fill about 200 open positions.

They're now down to 49 open job positions on the job board. They've made over 100 hires so far since last month as the start of the school year is nearing.

The school district is still looking for teachers in Special Education, Math, Science and English.

“Our students are very important to us. We would like for you to come building-ready because our students are looking for people that care. They’re looking for teacher assistants that help them, and they’re looking for professionals that want to be with them in the classrooms, in the buildings and ready to rock and roll with education," said Wanda Washington, Recruiter and Project Coordinator for the Washoe County School District.

“Of course, we’re going to make sure everything is in place to welcome out personnel for our students, so hopefully everyone will be in place and ready to roll," Washington adds.

“If you have a passion for kids if you like being around them all day everyday this is the job for you," said Rebecca Janes, a Teacher for the WCSD.

Janes teaches 7th grade ELA Resources at Traner Middle School. It's her first year at Traner Middle School, but she has been in the school district for 12 years.

Janes says everyone has been supportive, but preparing has been difficult because it's time consuming and labor intensive to get ready for the school year.

"Things I'm looking forward to this year are the challenges of increasing my special education knowledge and also learning a new population," she said.

She also explains that over the years she's seen a huge reliability in technology in the kids as the year goes on.

“Having them be able to disconnect long enough to pay attention to what we’re doing in the classroom is the biggest challenge," Janes explains.
