The Washoe County Sheriff's Office joined FBI Las Vegas as they hosted its Post-Blast Investigator Course in Washoe County.

Federal State, local investigators, and bomb technicians trained on how to develop a case for prosecution.

In a Facebook post, the Sheriff's Office says, participants learned how to recognize specific bomb traits by identifying types of explosives and detonators, assessing the level of damage certain materials have based on weight, and collecting evidence for investigation when responding to a scene.

Officials also say technicians and investigators have different roles regarding a blast.

Technicians must keep the scene safe and identify possible materials that started the blast, while investigators collect evidence.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the training allows participants to gain and practice skills to help track down what caused an explosion, and learn how to use those findings to support criminal investigations and public safety.

The Consolidated Bomb Squad and the Northern Nevada Federal Task Force, as well as experts in fire and law enforcement, forensic science and HAZMAT all participated as instructors of the course.

The Sheriff's Office says, "Trainings like this ensure that our regional teams are always ready to respond, investigate, and protect our community."
