The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is warning of an uptick in scam calls where the scammers are impersonating law enforcement.

In the scam, the callers are impersonating law enforcement staff and demanding payments for fake warrants, or for jury duty violations.

Officials would like to remind the public that:

  • Law enforcement will never call to demand payment
  • If someone asks for your money or personal information, hang up immediately
  • You can verify any claims by calling the courts or Sheriff's Office directly
  • You can report scam calls to your local authorities

You can get more information about scam calls at the Washoe County Sheriff's Office website.
