Washoe County is inviting residents to learn more about how the county budget works during its second annual Budget 101 workshop later this month.
The public event will offer an introduction to county funding sources and expenditures while also demonstrating how to use the Washoe Checkbook. This online interactive tool allows people to view revenue and expenditures across all county departments in near real time.
Washoe County Comptroller Cathy Hill and Division Director of Budget Lori Cooke will lead a 40-minute presentation explaining the basics of county budgeting and how to navigate the Washoe Checkbook.
“The budget is a financial plan for implementing the county’s strategic objectives,” Cooke said. “The Checkbook is the visual proof of the implementation of the budget. It shows exactly what has been spent on what and when. It’s truly the next level of transparency, and we are so proud to offer it to residents.”
The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at the Washoe County Administrative Complex, Building A Chambers, 1001 E. Ninth St. in Reno.
