A suspect who was arrested in Winnemucca in October on charges of sexually assaulting a child was recently charged again while in the custody of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Detention Center.

The new charges involve child sexual abuse material, the Winnemucca Police Department said in a release.

29-year-old Giovani Diaz of Winnemucca was arrested after a months-long investigation by the department. Investigators executed a search warrant at his home, seizing multiple digital devices for forensic examination.

A digital forensics analysis by the Nevada State Police Major Crimes Division confirmed the presence of illicit materials. Search warrants for associated online accounts uncovered an additional substantial volume of child sexual abuse images and videos.

Diaz faces 22 counts of use or permit minor under the age of 14 to produce pornography, nine counts of promote sexual performance of a minor under age 14, 10 counts of use of internet to control visual presentation depicting sexual conduct of person under 16 years of age, and one count of possession of visual presentation depicting sexual conduct of person under 16 years of age.

His bail has been set at $7,870,000 cash or bond.

The Winnemucca Police Department clarified in a social media post that Diaz “was never released from custody between his arrest in October 2025 and today. He has been in the custody of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. The recent charges stem from an investigation that has spanned several months.”
