Looks like it'll be a white Christmas after all, at least on Mt Rose Highway.
As of 5:30 p.m. Monday, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) was enforcing chain controls on State Route 431 from Sky Tavern to Incline Village.
Monday's storms have covered the road in snow and ice, but that's not stopping folks from heading to Mt Rose Ski Tahoe.
Jeff Odum said conditions are "decent, a little slippery. Up high, it's snowing a lot, but that's what we came for. To find the snow."
One snowboarder told us he spread some Christmas cheer while he was preparing his car for the mountain.
"There's a guy behind me with a pickup truck," said Jun Xu. "He saw me put on chains, and then he asked me if I can help him."
Xu said he was more than happy to help, but the other driver's chains worked differently from his.
"I pulled up a YouTube video, looked at how to do that chain, because I don't know how to do his chains, you know?" Xu said.
After a quick tutorial, they got the chains on. But it wasn't smooth sailing just yet.
"Still, the chains were kind of loose," Xu said. "We tested going back and forth a couple of times. Finally, you know, he's good to go."
NDOT says in white-out conditions, turn on your headlights so other drivers can see you, and keep cruise control off so you can control the car instead. You should also give the car in front of you some extra room.
If you're visiting a ski resort or otherwise stopping in the snow, another snowboarder says it's time to take care of your wipers.
"I remembered it's going to get frosty, and it might be harder after to get them out, or they'll be stuck, so yeah," said Mitko Vidanovski.
Above all else, take it easy on the road.
"Drive slow," Odum said.
"Just go slow," Xu adds.
"If you go too fast, you'll go into the ditch. You can't brake,"Â Vidanovski said.
