Sparks Police arrested a woman following an alleged stabbing at an apartment on Greyhaven Lane, on Monday.

On September 1, at 4:52 p.m., Sparks Police received a call reporting a stabbing, with the caller following the suspect.

Patrol officers and a police K9 arrived shortly afterward and contacted the suspect, whose pants were soaked in blood.

The woman ignored commands and moved toward the K9 officer after being instructed to stop. Officers deployed the K9 to subdue her, and she was taken into custody for obstructing and an outstanding warrant.

Officers also responded to an apartment on Greyhaven Lane, where the stabbing occurred.

A 72-year-old man was found in his apartment with numerous stab wounds. He was transported by REMSA medics to Renown Medical Center and rushed into surgery for life-threatening injuries.

Sparks PD detectives assumed the investigation. They found the victim had allowed Makayln West, who is homeless, to temporarily stay at his apartment. While there, West allegedly attacked the man with a knife for no apparent reason.

Police say that concerned neighbors heard a commotion, knocked on the door, and yelled into the apartment, interrupting the stabbing and potentially saving the victim’s life.

The neighbors then followed the suspect while calling police.

West was booked into the Washoe County Jail for obstructing arrest, an outside agency warrant, and battery with a deadly weapon. Police say charges of attempted murder and elder abuse were also added.
