A preliminary magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Northern California early Monday afternoon. 

Specifically, it struck at 23 miles west of Petrolia in Humboldt County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The sheriff's office reports that the temblor was "largely felt" around the county.

There's no immediate word on any injuries or damage. 

The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center says a tsunami is not expected. 

Several aftershocks have been reported.
