Nirvana was awarded the 2026 Video Vanguard Award at the starry 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. Madonna opened the show and was joined by her recent collaborators Sabrina Carpenter and Charli xcx. LISA won the first award for best pop. Kacey Musgraves paid tribute to Dolly Parton. Later in the night, Taylor Swift will make history. It was announced recently that Swift will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors, making her the most awarded artist in VMA history. She is currently tied with Beyoncé, each having 30 awards. The new honor will bring her total to 31. Snoop Dogg is hosting the event. The show is being broadcast live on CBS from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
