A press conference was held by officials in Madison, WI regarding the school shooting that happened at Abundant Life Christian School earlier today.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes reported that MPD was called to the school at 10:57 a.m. for an active shooter.

Three people have been confirmed dead, including the shooter.

The suspected shooter is a teenager who attended the school.

Officials are not releasing the age, gender, or any other identifying information about the shooter at this time.

The current reported number of injured is six, with two people transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and four others brought to the hospital with less severe injuries.

The school has been completely cleared, and officials are now in the re-unification process of accounting for all students in the building and reuniting them with their families.

According to Fire Chief Chris Carbon with Madison Fire Department, first responders were able to get to the scene and get injured people transported to the hospital within 15 minutes of arrival.

A large team of fire personnel helped at the scene, including 15 ambulances and 11 off-duty officers.

Madison Police now say three people are dead, not five, as they previously reported during a live press conference. 

Police say the shooter, a juvenile, is among the three dead. 

“Today is a said, sad day, not only for Madison but for our entire country," Barnes told reporters.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said police were alerted shortly before 11 a.m. and did not fire their weapons when they rushed into the school. Barnes suggested the shooter died by suicide.

“They found the person responsible who was down, deceased," the chief said.

Agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have responded to the scene to assist local law enforcement.

“We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond,” Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said in a statement.

Abundant Life Christian School is nondenominational and has about 390 students, from kindergarten through high school, according to its website.

President Biden has been briefed on the situation. Senior White House officials are in touch with local counterparts in Madison to provide support as needed.
