On Monday night, the Incline Village and Crystal Bay citizens advisory board held a meeting where a Nevada State Park representative discussed the first full season of Sand Harbor State Park's parking reservation system.Â
April 15 to October 15 was the first full season of parking reservations, with charges of $15 for Nevadans and $20 for anyone from out of state.Â
Representatives said that despite every day being fully reserved from Memorial Day to Labor Day this year, around 30 percent of those reservations were no-call no-shows.Â
The state park team mentioned a possible $2 fee in the future for those riding the bus to the park, which will either be implemented in the summer of 2026 or 2027.Â
Members of the advisory board were specifically concerned about safety issues at the park. Particularly, the evacuation of residents from Incline Village and visitors to the State Park.Â
"All of those people at the beach and in those cars are exiting onto 28 South going down toward 50, which is one of our three exit possibilities for Incline Village in the event of a major fire," said Board chair Roxanne Dunn.Â
Other members raised concerns over people parking along Highway 28, as it could be "a disaster waiting to happen."
State Park officials tell us they vigilantly and carefully cite and remove vehicles parked along highway 28 within their jurisdiction, any concerns about vehicles outside their jurisdiction should be brought up with Highway Patrol and Washoe County.Â
Nevada State Parks said the parking reservation system will continue to be implemented. They tell us they have no plans to raise the price of reservations.Â
