The Nevada Division of State Parks is asking for the public's input on the development of a new Sand Harbor master plan to address the parks issue' and provide opportunities for improvement.
The focus is to design a plan that is a comprehensive, long-term strategy that guides the development and growth of the area.
Over the years visitors to The Sand Harbor State Park have increased substantially in the last ten years causing overcrowded beaches, damage to natural resources and safety issues along the highway due to increases in traffic and parking.
A new master plan will allow park managers to respond to the drastically changed conditions and visitations.
Officials say the public's input is critical in defining how they can improve the visitor experience.
"This new master plan will represent a significant step forward in enhancing the natural beauty and visitor experience of our beloved park,” said Makaila Erdody, Park Supervisor for Sand Harbor State Park.
“We are committed to preserving the unique charm of Sand Harbor while introducing thoughtful improvements that will benefit our visitors for years to come."
Officials have launched a master plan story map and survey to provide information on the planning efforts.
Once the results are received the planning commission will assess the needs of the park and create a draft redesign with several different proposals, which they will unveil in the next phase of the process.
You can provide your input until the public survey closes on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
The master plan is scheduled to be completed by June of 2025 and the design phase is anticipated to occur the summer of 2025.
