A jury has convicted a former Washoe County School District employee of sexually assaulting a student.Â
The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says Caitlin Rock was found guilty of all 19 counts, after she was charged with four counts Sexual Assault of a Child Under 14, five counts Statutory Sexual Seduction, and 10 counts of Luring a Child with the Use of Computer Technology to Engage in Sexual Conduct.
The Washoe County DA says Rock was arrested after the then 14-year-old victim disclosed in 2024 that he and Rock had been in a sexual relationship since he was 13. Rock had met the child when she worked at Billinghurst Middle School as a resource for students with attendance issues. Prosecutors say the assaults were discovered when the victim’s mother tracked his phone after he disappeared one night and she found him alone at a local park. They say he then told his mother and subsequently police that he and Rock had been having sex for the prior year and a half.
Prosecutors argued text messages, statements from victims, and DNA evidence proved Rock had sex with a boy for more than a year.
The defense argued there is reasonable doubt to find her not guilty.
Sentencing is set for April 17 where she faces a mandatory 35-life for each sex assault charge, as well as one to ten years for each sexual seduction charge and one to ten years for each luring charge.
