Board of Regents Meeting

Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Regent Donald McMichael has been removed from the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Committee.

Both McMichael and the Board of Regents received letters on Thursday detailing the removal.

The letters, sent by Board of Regents Chair Amy Carvalho and Vice Chair Jeffrey Downs, cite McMichael's comments at the June 7 quarterly meeting as the reason, stating "while we realize his comments ... were his own words that represent his experience, they did not reflect or uphold the ideals of inclusion and equity that are integral to the foundation of the charter and charge of the IDEA committee."

The IDEA committee helps recommend policies to the Board of Regents to create, enhance, promote and support an environment that fosters Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access for all students, faculty and staff.

During the meeting on June 7, McMichael, while speaking about Jewish students feeling afraid of discrimination on campus, said, "...some Jewish students who are frightful to come to campus: get in line. There's others who have been here a lot longer and have been treated more poorly."
