Open burning will be allowed starting next months for residents in the Truckee meadows Fire Protection District.

That district is overseen by Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue, which says open burning will be allowed starting on December 1st for residents who have a permit, which can be purchased online.

Open burn periods are held so that people can get rid of cut and stacked vegetation, helping create defensible space. 

Residents are only allowed to burn when weather permits and from sunrise to noon.

Open burning will end on December 31st and the next open burn period will happen in March.
