A 31-year-old California driver is dead after a rollover crash on I-80 east near Fernley last month.Â
Nevada State Police troopers say the crash happened just after 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16th near mile maker 53.
NSP says a preliminary investigation shows that Joshua Fitzgerald was driving a 2013 Dodge Ram east in the left lane when he steered to the right causing it to roll over, between the two lanes.Â
At the same time, a 2024 Freightliner with trailer, also heading east, tried to avoid the overturned Dodge by braking and steering left. But, NSP says the front of the semi-truck hit the side of the pickup causing the Ram to spin and the Freightliner to stop in the left lane.
Fitzgerald was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but died eight days later.
