Elko police say a suspect killed a man at a business Thursday morning before taking his own life.
Police say just before 7:45 a.m. they were called out Sterling Crane on the report that someone had been shot. When they got there, they learned that the suspect, 42-year-old John Joshua Jauer had left the area in a red flatbed truck.
They say the victim, 50 year-old Robert Demars died inside the business.
A short time later, police say Jauer's truck was found at Peace Park.
The neighborhoods surrounding the Elko Peace Park were shut down and members from the Elko Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Elko Crisis Negotiations Team were called to assist.
Police say Jauer was later found underneath a pavilion in the park suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Medical personnel transported Jauer to the Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Both Demars' and Jauer's bodies are being sent to the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy as per protocol.
Surrounding schools were placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution.
Police say there is no threat to the public and police believed no one else is involved.
Police say a preliminary investigation indicates that Jauer was an employee of Sterling Crane and was being terminated from his employment there when this shooting occurred.
