Records are being broken with our latest storm. Over seven inches of snow fell at the Reno Airport on Tuesday alone. An official report of 7.7” breaks the old record of 7.1” set back in 1917 on February 17. While the amount of snow that fell was 7.7 inches, the snow depth when measured came to eight inches.
Snow totals are impressive, not only in the Sierra but also in the lower elevations. The report for Virginia City is from 4 pm on Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, snow totals exceeded a foot in places like Virginia City and ranged from 7 to 12 inches in Carson City. Minden got ten inches, too. Many of our ski resorts are reporting over four feet of snow since February 15th.
The Central Sierra Snow Lab, located near Donner, is reporting nearly six feet of snow from the past three days.
We don't have a long list of specific totals around the Reno area, but the image below paints a picture from radar of how much snow fell in Northern Nevada. The foothills picked up around a foot of snow, with lesser amounts to the east. However, even places like Dayton and Fallon were accumulating snow.
