Temperature rankings

The 2025-2026 winter season was the warmest on record in Nevada from December through February since 1895.

It was the second warmest winter season throughout the country as well.

Values are determined by averaging both the high and low temperature for the day.

Overall, it was a warm winter season, with only a handful of cold spells in the Sierra and Truckee Meadows.

Not only was it the second warmest winter season on record since 1895 in the United States as a whole, but it was also the warmest winter season on record for the state of Nevada. Information is according to NOAA/NCEI. 

It was also the warmest winter season on record in Oregon, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Wyoming.

It was slightly cooler than average in the northeast.

California was warmer than average but not record breaking. Nevada was 5.5 degrees warmer than the thirty-year average.

Precipitation rankings

While it was a warm winter season, it was not dry.

The state of Nevada finished the winter season near normal, with 2.82 inches of precipitation falling on average statewide.

It was also a typical winter season in California with just under 12 inches falling. Granted, our snowpack is poor, with not enough cold storms moving through.

Nevada records list

February was the 7th warmest on record in Nevada, and January and February combined takes the 4th spot.

The period from December through February was the warmest on record, as well as at least all the way back to September.

First Dates in Reno

The extended forecast is trending warmer than average as well.

Records are likely next week as highs reach the 80’s. Reno usually sees its first 80 towards the end of April, and first 85 in May.
