A team of middle school Mathletes from Davidson Academy in Reno took first place in the Nevada State MATHCOUNTS Competition.
Their coach was Carol Smith-Nichols from Davidson Academy in Reno.
Julian Kuang, an eighth grader from Davidson Academy in Reno, was the top individual.
The top four mathletes will represent Nevada at the 2024 Raytheon Technologies MATHCOUNTS National Competition in Washington D.C. That contest will take place from May 11 to May 13.Â
The top four Nevada mathletes are Julian Kuang from Davidson Academy in Reno, Maxwell Tsai from Davidson Academy Online in Las Vegas, Culhan Ma from Tao Homeschool in Las Vegas, and a student from The Adelson School in Las Vegas.
The MATHCOUNTS Competition is a national math competition that over 100,000 students compete in every year. The contest aims to build confidence and problem-solving skills for students and help them succeed in STEM fields in the future.Â
