The Washoe County Sheriff's Office announced that retired Sergeant Wayne Westerlind passed away on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer.
Westerlind served the Sheriff's Office for 26 years from 1990 to 2016.
“Our Sheriff's Office family is heartbroken to learn of the loss of our former colleague. Wayne was a true leader and mentor, and his guidance and support were invaluable to those who worked with him,” said Sheriff Balaam.
On their X page, the Sheriff's Office said, "We will always cherish Wayne's contributions to our agency and community, and his absence will be deeply felt."
