All around the world, people celebrate on New Year's Eve with their friends and families.
However, those celebrations can turn into a long night for some, if not careful.
The Reno Police Department plans months in advance for this day, as they make safety their top priority.
"We'll have an increase in officers assigned to our DUI unit and those who have received additional training to go out and about to make sure we leave our roadways safely for everyone else," said Commander Daniel Bond, Reno Police Department.
Reno Police is asking people to have a sober driver or to use public transportation or a ride share service.
They also advise that the roads will not be closed, so they ask people to stay on the sidewalk.
For people heading downtown, Reno Fire Department says you should plan a second exit point in the event of an emergency.
They also say that if you go in a group, to have a designated meeting place, and remind everyone that fireworks are illegal in Washoe county.
Not only are they illegal, but they're very dangerous and can be the cause for a plethora of injuries.
On top of that, they also bring major fire risks, especially this year.
"We had a lot of neighborhood fireworks which did take our resources away from medical emergencies because we were fortunate last year because it was a wet year," said Fire Marshal Tray Palmer, Reno Fire Department. "This year is not wet; it's still dry out there and the brush will still burn."
RFD is asking people to be responsible and avoid preventable disasters, so they can focus their resources on other things.
"We do have limited personnel, so we ask everybody you know keep it safe," Fire Marshal Palmer said. "Don't be stupid because that will take resources away from the people that need it."
The Eldorado and Silver Legacy will have a firework show for those in the downtown area.
They have made sure to have plenty of security, medical and fire personnel so people can have fun, safely.
"These are trained professionals," said Ken Ostempowski, General Manager for the Row. "They will be handling everything that's permitted on our roof. They'll be safe and secure, but more importantly, you can enjoy them up in the sky at a distance and you can know in confidence that you're going to be protected. That you're going to be completely safe. You'll never have to worry about anything unusual happening because we have everything under control."
