This year's annual Share Your Christmas Drive by Food Drive is coming up fast.

This Friday is the day we've all been looking forward too, and our location in Fernley is making a comeback!

We'll be gathering once again at the Raley's in Fernley to gather as many donations and non-perishable foods as possible to sustain local food pantries for the entire year to come.

Last year 5,605 pounds of food and $4,260 was collected for St. Roberts, Living Faith Christian Fellowship and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, and this year we're hoping to raise even more.

Every year we see an increase in the demand for food to feed our community and this year is no different.

Francesca Maipi, the Director of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Food Distribution says, "It was so great to see the community come out to help support us when we support them all year long."

They run USDA commodities out here and a food pantry.

Their food pantry serves not only the tribal communities of Nixon, Sutcliffe and Wadsworth but they also serve more surrounding cities in the area.

Maipi emphasizes the need for donations.

"It's a great need with the rising cost of housing and the rising inflation we have," she said. "There is such a great need for food for the elders and larger families that we have around us."

She tells the community "Come on through, we're going to have fun, and drop off as little or as much as you want. We'll take even one can if you want. We just love to see everyone come through and show support for us."

Maipi also adds "I appreciate all the collaboration we've ever done, whether it's with small organizations, with other local food pantries, or if it's with bigger organizations like the Food Bank of Northern Nevada or Channel 2 News. Thank you for the ongoing support that we have from everyone including the tribe."

We'll be taking donations at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, the Governor's Mansion in Carson City, the Carson Valley Inn in Minden and again our fourth location at the Raley's in Fernley!
