A car ran into a local coffee shop, Rising for People Coffee Company, on May 25.
The owners have been working hard since then to not only reopen the business but expand its brand.
"Things were flying at us, so we just kind of dropped to the floor before we knew what was going on," said Skyler Jones, CEO and Founder, Rising for People Coffee Company when recapping the day. "It was early in the morning around 9:30, and a car was trying to break and hit the gas and ended up where I'm standing now."
The business is looking to move to a new location in Midtown next year at 121 Vesta Street.
Rising for People started in 2022, as coffee importers.
The company moved in with the Haven on Earth Bakery in south Reno last year.
The coffee spot says they source directly from farmers to truly be an organic place to grab your cup of joe.
"So, vertically sourcing is basically a registration of wherever it comes from," said Jesse Asbshire, CFO, Rising for People Coffee Company. "Whatever port it goes to, whatever truck it goes on and when it gets to us. So, we know exactly where it's coming from. We have a relationship with those farmers."
The company had more plans for improvement this year, but things changed once headlights came screeching into their business.
"It was really, really rough," Jones said. "It was probably the roughest thing I've had to experience so far."
"We like to keep saying like a phoenix rises from the ashes," Abshire said. "We legit had the wall fall on people."Â
The company worked in the dark, in a boarded up building, until the lights came back on in September.
The staff started going to farmers markets more frequently to try and keep things afloat and make new connections.
Abshire says they lost about 60 percent profit, especially since they were expected to be busy during the summer.
With the new location looking to open next year, this is the first time they will have their own space to call home.
"We have been searching for our own space for so long," Jones said. "One of the biggest things we want to do is roast on demand."
"We're kind of using it as, 'hey, we've been tested' and now it's helping to propel us to a new location where we can provide coffee and new activities we're trying to expand," Abshire said.
Rising for People is asking for some help before they move to their new building.
They have started a crowd funding campaign, and when you donate you will receive discounts and store credit.
You can donate to them at the Rising for People Coffee website.
