The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says a Sparks man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in connection with a 2021 Lemmon Valley shooting and car crash.

26-year-old Tyler Hernandez will be eligible for parole after serving 6 years.

Prosecutors say he pleaded guilty to Discharging a Firearm at or into Occupied Vehicle, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Reckless Driving Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm to Other Person.

The district attorney's office says Hernandez fired shots into a car, then drove away, and into oncoming traffic hitting another car, injuring a woman who was not involved in the shooting.

Authorities say Hernandez and his passenger were both thrown from their car and suffered unknown injuries. The other driver was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries, including a shattered hip.

Hernandez was previously convicted of felonious involuntary manslaughter related to a fatal shooting which occurred in Galena in June of 2018.Â
