Bicyclist injured in hit-and-run crash on Prater Way

Sparks Police have identified a driver believed to be involved in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.

Sparks Police, Sparks Fire and REMSA responded to a report of a person lying in the roadway on Prater Way and View Street just after 3 a.m. 

Their investigation revealed the man had been riding a bike when they were hit by a vehicle that left the area. 

Investigators, after speaking to witnesses, were able to track down a black Cadillac Escalade believed to be involved. 26-year-old Jose Amaya was later taken into custody and booked on the following charges:

  • DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm
  • Duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death or personal injury.
  • Proof of financial responsibility
  • Suspended vehicle registration
  • Fail to maintain travel lane.
  • Operating a motor vehicle without a court ordered breath interlock device.

A bicyclist is in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.

It happened on eastbound Prater Way just past the I-80 junction. 

Sparks Police got the call at 3 o'clock in the morning.   When they arrived on scene the vehicle was gone.   The bicyclist was treated for injuries and then transported to a hospital.

The suspected vehicle was later located, and a person is now under arrest and are booked into Washoe County Jail.   Impairment is suspected in this case.  Â
