Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue Chief Charles Moore has announced that he will retire when his current contract ends.

He made the announcement during Tuesday's Board of Fire Commissioners meeting. 

Chief Moore says they'll be working on a transition plan for the fire district's leadership in the next few months.

He's been chief since 2012. 

Chief Moore began his career as a volunteer firefighter and started his professional career in 1981.

He has held every position in the fire service - from firefighter, driver/operator, lieutenant, captain and fire marshal.
