The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District will swear in its new fire chief at a Board of Fire Commissioners Meeting on Tuesday.
Richard Edwards will be sworn in at the meeting at the Washoe County Commission Chambers at 10 a.m. on July 1.
Before his service at TMFPD, Chief Edwards served as the Fire Chief/Deputy Director of Emergency Services for the City of Stockton, California, according to a release from the Fire Protection District.

Update (6/3/2025, 1:15 p.m.):
The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District met today - one of the agenda items was the contract for new Truckee Meadows Fire Chief Richard J. Edwards.
The contract was part of a multiple item block vote, and was approved by the board.
According to the agenda notes from the meeting, the new fire chief is on a one year contract beginning July 1 and ending June 30, 2026 that will pay a salary of $296,849.28, with benefits totaling $146,753.
“I’m deeply honored and grateful for the trust placed in me by the Fire Commissioners,” said Chief Richard Edwards. “I’m committed to leading with integrity, supporting our dedicated firefighters and personnel, and continuing to serve this community with the excellence it deserves.”
Chief Edwards begins his tenure with TMFPD on July 1.
Update (5/5/2025, 2:30 p.m.):
After a day of lengthy interviews, the Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue (TMFR) Board of Commissioners has chosen their new fire chief.
The group has unanimously chosen Richard J. Edwards to serve in the role.
Edwards is replacing former Chief Charles Moore, who recently retired from service.
"I am honored and grateful for the trust put in me by the Board of Fire Commissioners,” said Chief Edwards. "I am excited to get to know the fire family at TMFPD and the community. There are many challenges facing the fire district, and I look forward to working alongside the dedicated chief officers and entire staff and getting down to work."

The search for a new fire chief is almost over for Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue.
The agency is set to interview the final candidates on Monday.
The candidates are:
* Micheal Despain, Interim Deputy Fire Chief, Redmond Fire Department, Redmond, Washington
* Richard J. Edwards, Fire Chief, Stockton Fire Department, Stockton, California
* Timothy Soule, Fire Chief, Rural Metro Fire Department Central AZ, Phoenix
* Loren Dale Way Interim Fire Chief/Chief Executive Officer, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Reno
* Walt W. White, Fire Chief, Sparks Fire Department, Sparks.
Former TMFR fire chief retired in January.
