Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue responded to 7,472 more calls in 2025 compared with 2024. That's according to the newly released annual community report.

Chief Richard Edwards says the increase in responses is largely attributed to the expansion of automatic aid with TMFR's regional partners, where the closest emergency resource, regardless of jurisdiction, responds.

"At the end of the day, it's the community that benefits from that, so we're happy to do that," said Edwards.

71% of the calls the fire agency responded to were done by Battalion 40, which is the north battalion. It includes Verdi, Sun Valley, Spanish Springs, Stead, and Cold Springs. Overall, there was one type of call responsible for nearly 9,500 responses.

"Our highest call volume, as it is every year, is EMS or medical emergencies," said Edwards. "Within the district, two-thirds of our members are paramedics. So, to provide that highest level of emergency medical pre-hospital care, we have those personnel here within the organization. And that's also a big focus of our training."

According to the report, training increased by more than 8,000 hours.

32,600 hours were spent training across the board, taking it from an average of 183 hours of training per person to 243.

Chief Edwards says the district established a dedicated training division in 2025, which is helping to develop stronger team members across the board.
