WNC - vetreans suicide walk

Western Nevada College's Veterans Resource Center and Wildcat Veterans Club are teaming up to host the Walk for Hope.

The one-mile walk will happen on Wednesday, May 1 at 9 a.m.

This event aims to bring awareness to suicide and share resources for suicide prevention.

Attendees will meet in Carson Nugget Hall on the second floor of the Aspen Building at the Carson City campus.

The event will begin with the Nevada National Guard Color Guard providing a flag ceremony. The Nevada Army National Guard chaplain's assistant will provide the invocation.

Then, President Dr. Dalpe, students and community members will provide a message of hope and share resources for those in crisis.

The walk will take place rain or shine and participants should wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

"As an institution that has a very robust student veteran population, we are alarmed at the number of veterans around the country who have taken their own lives," said WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe. "Our Veterans Resource Center takes suicide awareness very seriously and the Walk for Hope is one way that we can show support for all veterans. Please join us for this 1-mile walk on May 1!"
