Nevada men’s basketball coach Steve Alford has released a statement addressing recent rumors about him possibly leaving the Wolf Pack.
Nevada Basketball posted Alford's statement on X Wednesday.
“I know that there are a ton of rumors flying around and this happens when you have had success. However, Tanya and I love the Reno community, our boosters, the fan support, and the program we are building. We are already very putting together next year’s team.”
“I know that we are all hurting, as we had a tough final 7 minutes to the season. But wow, what an exciting season of winning basketball by so many great players that loved representing Wolf Pack Nation. I hope that you appreciate them as much as we do and I sincerely hope that everyone has a blessed Easter!”
Last week, #10 Nevada lost to #7 Dayton, 60-63 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It was the first-ever matchup between Dayton and Nevada.
The Wolf Pack are winless in the first round of the NCAA Tournament since reaching the Sweet 16 in 2018.
The Pack’s at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament not only marked Nevada’s 11th all-time appearance in March Madness, but also represented Alford’s 13th career appearance in the event. Alford has made it to four Sweet Sixteens, and he owns a record of 11-12 in the NCAA Tournament throughout his career.
