Brazilians voted in a high-stakes presidential election. Incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and top rival Flávio Bolsonaro battled for outright victory. A runoff will be held on Oct. 25 if neither candidate gets 50% of the vote. Almost 159 million Brazilians are eligible to vote in this crucial election. The outcome could hinge on support for other candidates. Lula is a Washington critic and Beijing partner. Bolsonaro is the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro and is aligned with U.S. President Donald Trump. The election is marked by polarization and accusations. Last-minute mistakes could sway undecided voters. Polls closed at 5 p.m. Sunday with those still in line able to vote and a count expected within hours.
