Hurricane Simon is pounding Mexico’s Pacific coast as a Category 4 storm. Its eye is moving slowly just offshore as its most powerful winds and rain slam people living between the Sierra Madre and the ocean. Forecasters at the U.S. National Hurricane Center said it’s not clear if where it might make landfall as it maintains extremely dangerous strength, sustaining winds of 150 mph (240 kph). Hurricane center specialist Phillipe Pappin says Cabo Corrientes, which is mainland Mexico's westernmost tip, is most likely to get a direct hit. Meanwhile Mexicans living upland from coastal resorts are bracing for mudslides in the torrential rain.
