German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth over $1.5 billion during a visit to Kyiv. This comes as Russia escalates its attacks on Ukrainian cities. About $1.1 billion euros of the package is military aid, including long-range strike weapons and combat drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the two countries signed 15 agreements covering security cooperation and weapons production. Merz and Zelenskyy visited a building damaged in a Russian attack, with Merz condemning the violence and calling for an end to the war. Zelenskyy said the U.S. had proposed holding a trilateral meeting at the technical level by the end of October
