Two mass shootings hours apart near South Africa’s two largest cities killed at least 27 people, police said. Seventeen people were killed on Saturday night when gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols opened fire at a bar in Wedela township, southwest of Johannesburg. About four hours later, 10 people were killed at a store in Lwandle township, near Cape Town. No arrests have been made in either case. The attacks came five days after gunmen killed at least 11 people, including a pregnant woman, at a house party near Durban.
